It's that time of year again folks!

The annual Limekilns Church Concert was held on Friday June 12th and was another evening of varied entertainment. No matter how we try, we just cannot get an MC with even a smidgen of Panache, so once again it was Duggie!

Anyway, here is the usual brief review of the acts, in no particular order.

The Stompers

The evening was started off with a couple of tunes from The Stompers, at least a few of them.

These guys are still as good as ever and always do a good set.

This year their usual clarinetist (Is that a word? -The Webmaster) was unavailable so they had a harmonica player instead; a nice bit of variety and a good way to start prodeedings

Eileen Kirkpatrick

This year saw a few new acts appearing and the first was our own, our very own, Eileen Kirkpatrick.

Eileen did a couple of poems for us and delivered them in her usual confident way.

I can't remember what the poems were but if she reads this, maybe she will let me know so I can update this bit.

Morag Angus

Morag Angus is a regular at these events and never disappoints.

Last year Duggie forgot her and I think that may have influenced her choice of son this time round!

She sang Memories from the show Cats and did a very nice version of this song.

David Blane

David Blane did a couple of songs here and the first was a song by ChumbaWanmba - No! It wasn't I get knocked down! (You can never complain about David's lack of variety - The Webmaster) which he did unaccompanied.

He did two songs in this part and then did his usual sing-along at the end of the concert where everyone - well, sang-along.

Charlie Chung

Another newcomer to the Limekilns Church concert was Charlie Chung

Charlie is being taught piano by Duggie and this was his first outing in public on the piano.

He did two pieces for us.

First was by Gedike and was a bit of clasical stuff. The second was a bit more modern and was Hey Jude, performed originally The Beatles, a four piece beat ensemble from Liverpool.

This was very good performance despite being taught by Duggie.

Mary Donnelly and Janet Stoddart

Mary Donnelly and Janet Stoddart sang a duet again this year.

They did Spindrift by Eric Thiman.

I have to say I haven't heard of Eric Thiman or Spindrift. However, this did not detract from my enjoyment of this song or the performance of the two ladies.

Mary also sang two songs on her own with Janet on piano. They were The Man I Love and Nice Work if you can get it both sung beautifully.

Fotheringham trio

We had a mixture of regular and newcomer in the next act.

John Fotheringham was ably assisted by two of his sprogs.

Lachlan on saxiphone and Iona on Flute helped out the old man perform a couple of jazz standards.

Iona gets the prize for being the youngest performer at this year's concert and was very good on the flute (Well! if you've got it, flaut it! - The Webmaster)

David Nelson

Yet another newcomer!

If it had not been for all the new people, this would have been a very short evening.

David Nelson recited two poems.

The first was Lament by Dylan Thomas (He must have copied his name from Bob Dylan - The Webmaster).

And the second, who's title eludes me, was a rather amusing tale about a small boy being eaten by a lion.

Both were read very well.

Limekilns Church choir

The choir sang a couple of songs from Tongues of Fire.

First was Do you love me? written by Douglas Kerr and the other was Ascension Song by Judith Fleming.

Another good performance by our own church choir.

Douglas Kerr

Duggie told us he thought he had better sing for us. (Can't think where he got that idea - The Webmaster).

Anwway, there was no stopping him as he was the MC.

He gave a stirring rendition of Music of the Night from Phantom of the opera

As you will see from this photo, he really gave it his all. It was a good version of a well known song.

Duggie, like many performers on the night, was ably accompanied by Janet Stoddart on the piano.

When Duggie had finished his number he annouced the last item. He seems to be getting very forgetful. Last year he forgot Morag and this year he forgot Barry. (He should be more careful, Morag cannot give him a rotten review on the web site! - The Webmaster)

The Webmaster

Fortunately, the Wemaster is bigger than that and decided not to try to ruin his reputation on this site.

Anyway, second last, before the sing-along, was Barry.

This year he gave us Back home again by John Denver and then a Tom Paxton song, Last thing on my mind

Once again it was an adequate performance. At least this year he didn't go all pretentious and use two guitars!

Another year and and another concert has come and gone. It really was a good thing that there were so many new acts on the bill. Without them, it would have been a quiet evening with the same people as usual. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but we need to get new people involved to help get us a bit of variety.

Maybe next year?
